Migrating Silicic Volcanism in the Northwestern U.S.

 

The Snake River Plain is widely interpreted as the result of the motion of the North American Plate over a fixed hot spot. What then is the cause of west-migrating silicic volcanism of the Oregon High Lava Plains? This was the subject matter of my Ph.D. research with Anita Grunder, Dave Graham, and Bob Duncan at Oregon State University.
